GMC Urges to Citizens on Disposal of Banana Trees After Diwali
Guwahati, 10th November: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has advised shopkeepers, puja pandal committees, and citizens to refrain from discarding banana trees on streets after the festivities. Instead, the GMC recommends safely disposing of unused banana trees in GMC garbage vans to avoid cluttering the streets. The municipal board issued a helpline number, 8811007000, for citizens to contact for the proper disposal of these trees.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the GMC emphasized responsible waste management, stating, “Don’t toss the banana trees on the streets. Call GMC on our helpline number, and we’ll pick them up! Whether they’re unsold or used, we’ll ensure proper disposal. Let’s light up the city without littering it. Together, we can make a difference!”
This initiative aligns with the municipality’s commitment to collecting and recycling all discarded trees, contributing to a cleaner and more environmentally friendly post-festive season.
Guwahati Commissioner of Police Diganta Barah has also urged residents to celebrate Diwali and Kali Puja with enthusiasm while adhering to administration-set guidelines. Barah warned that strict action would be taken against those found violating the established rules. The administration has imposed a complete ban on bursting sound-emitting firecrackers between 10 pm to 8 am in the Kamrup Metro district. Additionally, the manufacture, sale, and use of firecrackers generating noise levels exceeding specified limits have been prohibited to ensure a quieter and safer celebration.
