Goa Court Grants Three-Day Transit Remand for Online Trading Scam Accused Dipankar Barman

Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough for the Guwahati Police, the Pernem court in Goa has granted a three-day transit remand for Dipankar Barman, the proprietor of DB Stock and the primary suspect in a high-profile online trading scam.

Barman was apprehended near Arambol Beach, approximately 70-80 kilometers from Goa’s capital, Panaji, following a challenging two-week manhunt across multiple states.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah, updating the media on the complex operation, confirmed that five individuals linked to Barman had been detained, including his father, mother, girlfriend, her sister, and his chartered accountant. “These arrests are instrumental in shedding light on the network and operation of Barman’s alleged scam,” Commissioner Barah stated during a press briefing, emphasizing the case’s national implications.

According to the commissioner, Barman had eluded authorities by staying off social media since August 21 and frequently shifting his location. Advanced tracking techniques eventually traced his movements to Goa, specifically through financial transactions originating in Assam. “We utilized cutting-edge technology to monitor his activities, which led us to his temporary residence in Goa,” Barah added.

The operation, led by ACP Amit Mahato, included a small but efficient team of two sub-inspectors and one constable, who coordinated closely to conduct the arrest on Sunday evening. Upon searching Barman’s premises, police seized over ₹27 lakh in cash, Barman’s passport, and several valuable items, strengthening the investigation’s evidence base.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), now overseeing the primary case, registered a new case (no. 374/24) at Paltan Bazar police station in Guwahati. Following his appearance in the Pernem court, Barman will be transported to Guwahati for further interrogation and proceedings as authorities work to unravel the scope of his alleged fraudulent operations.
