Guwahati: In a first-of-its-kind display of inter-state cooperation, a contingent of 700 recruits from the Goa Police successfully completed their 43-week basic training at the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy (LBPA) in Assam’s Golaghat district.
The graduation, which took place on Tuesday, was a landmark moment, bringing to a close a rigorous training programme that began when the recruits arrived at the academy on October 4 last year. The newly minted officers are set to be inducted into the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Indian Reserve Battalions, ready to serve their state with skills honed far from home.
The passing out parade, a grand affair, was graced by the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Goa counterpart, Pramod Sawant. Chief Minister Sarma marked the occasion as historic, underscoring the unique confluence of state police forces from Assam, Manipur, and Goa for simultaneous training, which has served to build a robust bond of camaraderie and professional exchange. The ceremony was a spectacle of discipline and pride, featuring a solemn oath-taking, a precise ceremonial march past, and the felicitation of outstanding recruits. A highlight of the event was a thrilling special demonstration by the ‘Panthers on Wheels’ unit, showcasing their exceptional tactical prowess. The LBPA, envisioned as a premier police training centre for the nation, saw its first phase inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in March this year.
The foundation stone for the next phase was also laid during that visit, pointing towards a future where such collaborations may become a regular feature of India’s police training landscape. The successful completion of this training by the Goa Police recruits is a testament to the academy’s growing stature and a shining example of federal cooperation in enhancing national security.
