Gogoi Voices Concern Over IMF Aid to Pakistan Amidst Ceasefire

Guwahati, Assam: Lok Sabha MP from Assam and Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has expressed apprehension regarding the recent $2.5 billion aid package extended by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Pakistan.

Speaking to reporters today, Gogoi stated his hope that the financial assistance would not be diverted to support terrorist organizations. His statement comes at a delicate juncture following the announcement of a cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan.

The Congress MP also took the opportunity to commend the Indian armed forces for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He conveyed his heartfelt solidarity with the families who have tragically suffered in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and those affected by the cross-border firing incidents in the Poonch region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Furthermore, Gogoi strongly criticized Pakistan’s persistent efforts to propagate the divisive two-nation theory within India. He emphasized the unwavering unity of the Indian populace, highlighting how citizens from diverse religious, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds have resoundingly rejected this theory, firmly upholding the secular principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution. He noted the collective spirit displayed by Indians in recent times, standing united under the national flag and extending their support to the Prime Minister and the government.

Gogoi’s remarks follow the significant development of a mutual agreement between India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and restore peace along their borders. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan contacted his Indian counterpart earlier this week, leading to a consensus on halting all military operations across land, sea, and air, effective from 5:00 PM Indian Standard Time yesterday. Misri also informed the press that directives have been issued to ensure the strict implementation of this ceasefire, with another round of DGMO-level talks scheduled for noon on May 12th.
