Entertainment: In a groundbreaking move that signals the changing landscape of entertainment, the Golden Globe Awards will introduce a new category for Podcast of the Year at its 83rd edition, scheduled for January 11, 2026.
This marks the first time in the event’s prestigious history that podcasts will be recognised alongside film and television.
Organisers of the Golden Globes announced the addition as a reflection of the rising cultural and creative significance of podcasts, which have grown into a powerful medium for storytelling and global community-building. The award will be open to both audio and video podcast formats, and will honour a production that made a significant impact over the past year.
“As the world of entertainment continues to evolve, we are excited to recognise new forms of storytelling,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “Podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations.”
The selection process will begin with the 25 most popular podcasts of the year, from which six finalists will be shortlisted ahead of the ceremony. Eligibility criteria and submission guidelines will be released in the coming weeks, as excitement builds across the podcasting industry.
