Government of India Approves Rs 104.66 Crore for Healthcare Development in Manipur’s Remote Districts
Imphal, Manipur: In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in Manipur, the Government of India has sanctioned Rs 10,466.11 lakh under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East (PM-DevINE) program.
This grant aims to enhance healthcare services in the state’s remote and hill districts, ensuring better access to medical facilities for underserved populations.
The funding will be used to establish specialised healthcare facilities and provide assured speciality services in hard-to-reach areas. Notable aspects of the project include:
• Establishing super-speciality hospitals and providing speciality healthcare at the District Hospitals of Chandel (Rs 1.55 crore), Ukhrul (Rs 9.41 crore), and Tamenglong (Rs 11.95 crore).
• Extending specialised healthcare services in Jiribam District (Rs 6.16 crore).
• Setting up super-speciality facilities in Senapati (Rs 12.15 crore).
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed his satisfaction over the approval, highlighting that the initiative will bring advanced medical services, such as CT Scans, MRIs, ICU facilities, and super-specialty care, to districts like Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong. “This grant ensures healthcare is brought closer to home for the people of these hill districts,” he said.
Additionally, Singh noted that the Churachandpur Medical College is already operational, contributing to the transformation of healthcare in the region. The recent PM-DevINE sanction marks a step towards more equitable healthcare access across Manipur.
