Governor Bhalla and Union Minister Scindia Push for Accelerated Development in Manipur

Imphal: In a significant move towards fast-tracking developmental projects in Manipur, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today co-chaired a high-level review meeting with Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. The session aimed to thoroughly assess the ongoing initiatives under the Ministry’s purview and strategise for quicker implementation.

The crucial meeting witnessed the active participation of key state officials, including Chief Secretary P.K. Singh, who presented a comprehensive overview of existing projects, highlighting the challenges encountered and pinpointing areas requiring focused intervention. Minister Scindia, who joined the deliberations virtually, meticulously reviewed the progress since their last meeting on April 17, 2025. He offered valuable feedback on a range of critical sectors, including the revitalisation of Manipur’s traditional handloom, handicrafts, and textiles; the advancement of tourism and Polo development; enhancements to transport and connectivity; the progress of palm oil cultivation under the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm (NMEO-OP); bolstering logistics infrastructure; attracting further investment; fostering vibrant villages; diligently monitoring Prime Minister’s priority projects; and resolving distressed projects under DoNER and the North Eastern Council (NEC).

Both Minister Scindia and Governor Bhalla strongly emphasised the urgent need for timely execution. Minister Scindia urged state departments to expedite project completions and promptly address any bottlenecks hindering progress. Echoing this sentiment, Governor Bhalla directed officials to adopt a results-oriented approach and intensify their efforts for effective on-ground implementation across all sectors.

The meeting also saw the presence of the Secretary to the Governor, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), senior administrative secretaries, and NEC officials who participated via video conference, underscoring the collaborative spirit driving these developmental initiatives. This high-level review reinforces the Centre’s unwavering commitment to accelerating the developmental momentum in Manipur, with a clear focus on achieving measurable progress through coordinated efforts.
