Governor Governor Gulab Chand Kataria On a Three-Day Visit to Barak Valley
Guwahati, 23 May: The last decade has witnessed a significant increase in road and railway infrastructure in development and improvement in law and order in Assam, says Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. Governor Kataria, who arrived in Silchar on a three-day visit to the Barak Valley on Monday, was speaking to reporters at the Cachar district collector’s office while attending a meeting to review the progress of work on various government projects.
He said a lot has changed in Assam in the last 10 to 12 years. There has been commendable improvement in infrastructure in terms of road and railway connectivity. The law and order system is improving and this is a positive sign. Kataria said progress and development will definitely come if there is peace in the state.
The Governor held meetings with various departments and reviewed the progress of work on various schemes of the Centre including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi etc. This review took place in the presence of the DC, DP & other senior officials. He said that by visiting every district of Assam in the next six months, efforts will be made to check the progress of various welfare schemes of the Centre so that the general public gets the benefit of the scheme.
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria participated in meetings with various departments including public health engineering, water resources, panchayats and rural development, works and irrigation departments and apprised them about the progress in work on various government projects.
Governor also held a meeting with the security forces and reviewed the law and order situation in the district. Governor Kataria expressed satisfaction over the efficiency of Cachar district administration in implementing various schemes and the strong approach of law and enforcement authorities to maintain a peaceful atmosphere across the district.
Later the Governor participated in an interactive session with the students and teachers held at NIT Silchar. After completing the tree plantation programme at NIT, Silchar, the Governor went to The University of Assam and laid the foundation stone of an auditorium and addressed a meeting held at The BipinChandra Pal Auditorium while participating in a similar interactive session.
