Governor of Assam Appoints New Chief Executive Councilor for KAC

Guwahati, 27th July: The Governor of Assam has appointed Jibesh Roy from Sasargaon Part 1, Dhubri District, as the new Chief Executive Councilor of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council (KAC). This appointment comes following the resignation of former Chief Executive Councilor Sri Gakul Barman. Roy’s appointment is effective immediately and will remain in effect until further orders.

The official notification states, “In the interest of public service, in partial modification of the Notification issued vide No.TAD/BC/34/2020/149 dtd.25/02/2021, and in exercise of powers u/s 59 of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council (Amendment) Act, 2020, the Governor of Assam is pleased to appoint Jibesh Roy, Sasargaon Part 1, District-Dhubri, Executive Councilor, Kamatapur Autonomous Council as Chief Executive Councilor of Kamatapur Autonomous Council in view of resignation tendered by Sri Gakul Barman, Chief Executive Councilor, with immediate effect until further orders.”

In 2023, the KAC was embroiled in a significant fraud case. Abhayapuri police apprehended Pankaj Das from Bijni in Chirang District for his involvement in a massive fraud operation that embezzled funds amounting to Rs 100 crore through fake work orders. The fraudulent scheme included the forgery of signatures and seals of the KAC principal secretary, Dhruvajyoti Das. Following the lodging of a First Information Report (FIR) by Das, police initiated an investigation, leading to Das’s arrest. However, one of the accused remains at large.

The new leadership under Jibesh Roy is expected to address and rectify these issues, ensuring transparency and integrity within the council.
