Govt Secretary Niten Chandra Reviews Ex-Servicemen Welfare in Assam; Army Chief Felicitates Veterans
Guwahati: Secretary to the Government of India, Ex-Serviceman Welfare (MoD), Niten Chandra, visited the Directorate of Sainik Welfare Assam on February 8, accompanied by Major General SBK Singh, Director General of Resettlement.
During his visit, Chandra assessed various welfare, financial, and infrastructure-related initiatives undertaken by the Directorate. He was briefed by Brigadier Polash Choudhury, Sena Medal (Retd), Director of Sainik Welfare Assam, who provided insights into the ongoing welfare programs, including the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). Expressing his appreciation, Chandra commended the Directorate’s proactive efforts and encouraged the continuation of its commendable work for ex-servicemen.
Meanwhile, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi honored two veterans, Major General Alok Raj (Retd) and Havildar Gurprem Singh (Retd), with the ‘Veterans Achievers Award’ during his visit to Jaipur Military Station. Addressing a large gathering of veterans, he emphasized their role in nation-building and aligned their contributions with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047.’
Last week, General Dwivedi also felicitated Indian Army contingents and bands for their outstanding performances at the Republic Day 2025 celebrations and the Beating Retreat Ceremony, recognizing their excellence and dedication.
