Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in a letter to the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu appealed for issuing Permanent Residence Certificates (PRC) to the Assamese natives of Arunachal Pradesh.
In the letter, the ULFA-I stated, “Diversity had laid the foundation for many nations around the world, some overcame extreme poverty and managed to topple mountainous obstacles with the workforce.”
It added, “Arunachal Pradesh has always been kind to its Assamese speaking community over the years. However, Assamese speakers, who are native to the land and have been living there for generations before NEFA (North-East Frontier Agency) 1972, are now in danger of expatriation.”
The letter further read that legacies of countless families are now being questioned and reduced to a “piece of paper”. “The native Assamese speakers of Arunachal Pradesh have been denied the right to obtain their Permanent Residence Certificates (PRC).
The Commander in Chief of the ULFA-I further in the letter requested the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh to “not let the heritage of countless Assamese families decimate”. He also “requested” the Chief Minister to grant the Assamese native of Arunachal Pradesh PRC.
