Granting ST status to 6 communities was discussed in the Sarbananda-Amit Shah meeting

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health, Finance and Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday to discuss a range of issues concerning the State. The Meeting took place at the Official Residence of Shah. “The Home Minister assured that Centre will back Assam’s plea for verification of 20 per cent Applications of NRC in the Districts bordering Bangladesh and 10 per cent Applications in others,” Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said after the Meeting.

The Meeting also discussed the report of the High-Level Committee on the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. “The Union Home Minister has asked the Chief Minister to review the report by legal experts. Then it will be sent to the Centre after the legal Examination at the State level,” Dr Sarma said. “The Meeting discussed the prompt implementation of the Bodo Accord. Decision was taken to implement many clauses of the accord within Next 30 Days. The issue of granting ST status to Six Communities was discussed. Home Minister Shah directed to send the report of Ministerial Committee of the State Government to the Centre within one Month,” he added.
