Guwahati: In a tragic incident, the carcass of an elephant calf was recovered from a field in Udalguri district of Assam on Friday afternoon.
According to reports, locals in the Paneri area spotted the calf and after which they informed forest authorities.
The distraught mother elephant was spotted mourning nearby the body, unsure of what to do.
What makes the situation even more heartbreaking is that the mother elephant kept her ground and would not leave the baby’s side.
It even made an attempt to stir the infant with her truck, but to no avail.
The cause of its death is yet to be ascertained.
