Grim Flood Situation in Dhemaji, Assam Affects Thousands and Damages Infrastructure

Guwahati, 7th August: The latest wave of flooding in Assam’s Dhemaji district has affected roughly 4,195 people and left a path of devastation in its wake, raising concerns about the flood situation there.

As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 10 villages spread across three revenue circles in the district have been inundated by floodwaters, submerging 152.82 hectares of cropland. The rising waters have also impacted 1,155 animals in the area, compounding the challenges faced by the local community.

To address the immediate needs of the affected population, a relief camp has been set up, providing shelter to 48 individuals who have been displaced by the calamity.

In addition to affecting lives and livelihoods, the flood has also resulted in the erosion of side berms and bridge approaches on the Public Works Department (PWD) route from Dhemaji railway station to Adikolia via Kankobasti, Shantipur, and Jamuguri Panchali, leading to significant road damage.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are engaged in relief efforts to provide assistance to those impacted by the flood. However, the district remains on alert, given the unpredictability of natural disasters.
