GSU warns action over ‘incomplete’ road construction in Meghalaya
Guwahati: The GSU Northern Zone together with its numerous groups has threatened agitation if the Damra-Bajengdoba road, which has been in the works since 2020, is not completed on time by the contractor.
Badri Rai and Company was given the job of building the aforementioned road.
Despite the fact that construction on the road began in earnest in early 2021, the GSU claims that there has been little development on the road to date, other from a few minor repairs.
The GSU filed a complaint with the North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday, requesting his assistance in the case.
The allegation to the DC came after numerous concerns to the PWD department went unanswered.
“The people of Resubelpara, Mendipathar and their adjoining areas are facing immense hardships due to the deplorable condition of the road after work was abandoned. The road is riddled with potholes at present and the coming monsoon season will only make things worse if nothing is done to repair it,” the GSU said.
While encouraging the DC to direct the contractor to speed the building work, the Union warned that if no action is taken, it will resort to agitation.
