GU Faculty Dr. Rita Moni Baishya Receives National Honour

Guwahati: At the 45th National Conference of Nagri Lipi Parishad held in Dibrugarh, Dr. Rita Moni Baishya, Associate Professor and Department Head of Hindi at Gauhati University received the Sreemati Ranidevi Baghel Smriti Nagri Sevi Sammaan National Award.

She received the honour for her significant contribution to the Devnagri Script field at the conference on November 4–5, sponsored by the Nagri Lipi Parishad NGO.

Mr. Rameshwar Teli, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Commission, Government of India, presented Dr. Baishya with her award which included a certificate, one angvastra, a souvenir and a sum of rupees 5,000.

The award ceremony was attended by Professor Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University in Shillong, as well as the President and Secretary of Nagri Lipi Parishad and professors from several Indian universities.

Acharya Vinoba Bhave, a renowned independence warrior and accomplished social worker, took the initiative to form the Nagari Lipi Parishad in New Delhi in 1975. In order to combine the Indian languages and bring attention to the convenience and simplicity of the Nagari script, this organisation was founded with the goal of developing the Nagari.

She recently transcribed and translated the Mahaurush Shankardev poem “Rukmini Haran Naat,” which is available through Vani Prakashan in New Delhi. This is the original Hindi translation of Rukmini Haran Naat.

It should be noted that Dr. Baishya previously won a national prize from the Central Hindi Directorate of the Indian government in 2015 for her book Lohit Kinare, for which she was given a certificate and a check for Rs. 1 lakh.
