Gun Attack by Suspected Kuki Militants in Manipur, 15 Injured
National Desk, 3 June: Despite the union home minister’s warnings to Kuki militants during his recent visit to Manipur, a new instance of accused Kuki militants firing against civilians was recorded in several areas of Manipur’s periphery, police said on Saturday.
A day after Home Minister Amit Shah left Manipur a gun attack by alleged Kuki insurgents took place in the Imphal West district’s Kangchup Foothill on June 2.
As many as 15 persons were injured in the untoward incident and two of them are in critical condition. All of the injured were immediately taken to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
One of the villagers reportedly told the media that numerous Kuki militants with heavy weapons had allegedly arrived to the village and attempted to set fire to civilian homes in the Abulok Area of the Kangchup Foothill. The armed terrorists opened fire on civilians as residents tried to stop them. The incident took place at around 2.20 pm.
MLA for Sekmai Constituency Heikham Dingo informed the media that one of the injured individuals claimed that the commotion in Imphal West district’s Phayeng and Kanchup foothills started when some alleged Kuki militants descended to attack the civilian.
“It is very unfortunate that many civilians belonging to various places had sustained injuries in the gun firing incidents. I would like to extend my appeal to stop these violent activities, arson,” he appealed.
