Gunfight Erupts Between Security Forces and Terrorists in Bandipora
National: A tense gun battle broke out this morning in the Kolnar Ajas area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The exchange of fire began as a joint team of the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police were conducting a search operation in the area. This operation was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs indicating the presence of militants.
Confirming the incident, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps communicated via social media platform X, stating, “On 25 Apr 2025, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Search Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora. Contact was established, and a firefight ensued.”
This latest encounter unfolds against a backdrop of increased military activity in the region. Earlier this week, a series of attacks had already heightened security concerns. Just yesterday, the Army reported the loss of a soldier who succumbed to injuries sustained during an encounter in the Udhampur district. The Army had stated, “Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched today in Basantgarh, Udhampur. Contact was established, and a fierce firefight ensued. One of our Bravehearts sustained grievous injuries in the initial exchange and later succumbed.”
Amidst these developments, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is currently in Srinagar to undertake a comprehensive review of the security scenario in the Kashmir Valley. His visit is particularly significant in the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which tragically resulted in the loss of 26 lives. General Dwivedi is engaged in crucial meetings with senior Army commanders and other key security officials to assess the ongoing counter-terrorism operations and to examine recent attempts by Pakistan to violate the ceasefire along the Line of Control.
In response to the prevailing security situation, the Army has intensified its vigilance across the region. Multiple coordinated search operations are underway as part of the sustained efforts to proactively prevent any further attacks. As the gun battle in Bandipora continues, further details regarding the operation are anticipated.
