Guwahati: In the ongoing war against drugs in the state Guwahati Police in a big development seized a huge quantity of cannabis (ganja) and arrested two persons in the connection in Lokhra area on Friday night.
The two smugglers identified as Biswajit Kalita and Trilokya Das. Both of them are the residents of Tetelia village under Hajo sub-division in the Kamrup district of Assam.
Based on reliable information, a ‘Maruti Swift’ bearing registration numbers AS 01 FA 2546 was intercepted at the Lokhra area.
On checking the vehicle, 40 kg of ganja has been recovered.
According to reports, they were allegedly smuggling cannabis from Tetelia to Guwahati.
Reportedly, they’ve also been accused of selling narcotics in the city and various other parts of lower Assam.
In addition, police officials also recovered several documents from the two which are being inspected.
It needs to be mentioned that the recovered ganja is believed to be worth several lakhs in the international markets.
