Guwahati: AAP Workers protest over flash flood; Detained
Guwahati: Guwahati Police has detained members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during a protest on Saturday at the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati.
The AAP workers were protesting the flooding situation in Assam outside Raj Bhawan by covering their mouths with black clothing.
They were preparing to deliver a memo on the flood issue to Governor Professor Jagadish Mukhi.
According to police, they do not have permission to hold the protest and therefore they were detained by police.
But the demonstrators claimed that the male police officers had similarly mistreated the female demonstrators.
The death toll from the Friday floods in Assam increased by 10, bringing the total up to 117.
More than 33 lakh people are still struggling to survive the floods.
A total of 33,03,316 people of 3,510 villages in 28 districts across 93 revenue circles have been affected by floods in the last 24 hours while 91658.49 hectares of crop areas have been destroyed.
The Brahmaputra and Kopili Rivers are flowing above the danger level.
The present flood wave has affected around 1.42 lakh people in 155 villages inside the Raha revenue circle. After their homes were submerged by flood waters, many flood victims have been seeking refuge on National Highway 37, other highways, embankments, and high ground.
Although the flood situation in the Nagaon district’s Kampur area has slightly improved, several locations within the Kampur revenue circle are still flooded. In the surroundings of the Kampur revenue circle, the destructive flood severely damaged numerous homes, roads, bridges, and embankments.
