Guwahati Activates Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) Cameras to Curb Traffic Violations
Guwahati, 20th October: In an effort to address traffic rule violations in Guwahati, the local police have activated the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) cameras throughout the city.
As the Durga Puja festive season unfolds, the traffic police in Guwahati have heightened their vigilance by deploying ITMS cameras in various areas of the city to closely monitor traffic rule violations. This approach aims to reduce the physical presence of police personnel on the city’s roads, replacing it with an automated system. Traffic violators will now receive SMS notifications with their e-challans on their mobile phones within 24 hours of a violation.
DCP Traffic Jayanta Sarathi Borah explained that the National Information Centre (NIC) will oversee 61 Internet Protocol (IP) cameras positioned throughout the city. He emphasized that the Intelligent Traffic Management System uses standard surveillance IP cameras for video capture and analysis.
Furthermore, DCP Traffic urged citizens to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers and to use seat belts while driving four-wheeler vehicles.
It’s noteworthy that since the activation of ITMS in Guwahati last year, the city police have been collecting up to Rs 15 lakh per day from traffic violators.
ITMS was introduced in Guwahati with the aim of ensuring smoother traffic flow, monitoring traffic violations, and issuing e-challans. The system has now been vigorously activated to address the increase in traffic violations that typically occur during the festive seasons of Durga Puja and Diwali.
