Guwahati: Chargesheet filed against 13 in Chit Fund Case
Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet in the Court of Special Judicial Magistrate at Kamrup in Guwahati against 13 accused in a chit fund related case.
According to reports, 13 accused include MD, Director of private company; private companies and others in a chit fund related case.
The MD has been identified as Biswapriya Giri, the director of a private company identified as Sachindra Nath Bhattacharya and Sushil Kumar Sharma.
The private companies include URO Agro India Limited, URO Infra Reality India Limited, URO Walkers Ltd, URO Hygienic Foods Limited, URO Lifecare Ltd, URO Autotech Ltd, URO Trexim Ltd, URO Hotels and Resorts India Ltd, URO Infotech Limited, URO Enclave India Ltd.
It may be noted that on May 9, 2014, a case was registered with the CBI following the order of Supreme Court, passed on hearing WP (C) No. 401/2013 & WP (C) No. 413/2013.
The CBI has been ordered by the Supreme Court to take over the investigation of the chit fund (financial fraud) case, which was previously filed by the Assam Police against private Group of Companies and others, including managing directors, general managers, managers, and private companies, with offices in Guwahati and Kolkata.
According to a statement issued by CBI spokesperson RC Joshi on Wednesday, the accused began their business of fraudulently collecting money from the public through various agents using cover schemes ostensibly for product booking.
CBI spokesperson further stated that none of the consumers received any product in exchange for the money, and the scheme was reportedly designed to defraud the government of Rs. 238 crores.
