Guwahati Cyber Police Rescues Rs 90,837 from Digital Arrest Scam

Guwahati: In a significant victory against cybercrime, the Cyber Police Station (Cyber PS) in Guwahati has successfully recovered Rs 90,837 from a victim who fell victim to the notorious “digital arrest” scam. This recovery marks a crucial step in the ongoing battle against cyber fraudsters who exploit fear and deception to extort money from unsuspecting individuals.

The victim, who had initially lost a substantial sum of Rs 48,40,844, had been targeted by scammers who claimed to be law enforcement officials. The fraudsters, using sophisticated tactics, convinced the victim that they were under investigation for serious crimes and demanded immediate payment to avoid legal repercussions.

The Cyber PS, known for its proactive approach to combatting cybercrime, deployed advanced tracking tools and collaborated with banking institutions to trace the illicit funds. Through meticulous investigation and relentless pursuit, the team was able to recover a portion of the stolen money and return it to the rightful owner.

This successful operation underscores the increasing sophistication of cybercrime and the need for heightened vigilance from individuals and law enforcement agencies alike. As digital technology continues to evolve, so too do the tactics employed by cybercriminals.

The recent arrests of two Assam-based men by Punjab Police, who were allegedly involved in similar digital arrest scams, further highlight the widespread nature of this threat.

The Cyber PS in Guwahati urges the public to remain cautious and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately. By working together, we can effectively combat cybercrime and protect ourselves from falling victim to these malicious schemes.
