Guwahati DCP: Gang Forged Appointment Letters in Cash-For-Jobs Racket
Guwahati: The Guwahati police deputy commissioner of supervision and inspection (DCP-I&S), Harekrishna Nath, claimed that the gang prepared fake employment letters for various state government departments in exchange for money after seven brokers were arrested in an alleged cash-for-jobs racket during a significant bust by the Dispur police.
Speaking to the reporters, DCP Nath stated, “ACP Himangshu Das and a team from the Dispur police station conducted the operation. In exchange for cash, the gang created phoney appointment letters for positions in several state government departments.
“Police are still searching for three people in connection with the bust,” he declared. So far, a computer and a few personal papers have been taken from them.
“The gang forged appointment letters using official seals and signatures. Today, the court will hear from all seven of them. We’ll try to get custody of them for a week, said DCP Nath.
It should be mentioned that the Dispur police detained seven brokers earlier today for promising work in return for money in a number of Assamese areas.
Police raided the GD lodge where they were sleeping in the Borbari district of the city and detained them. According to reports, they entered names into a master roll for various government jobs in exchange for payment.
Meanwhile, employees of the water resources department had filed a case in this respect in 2017. On the upcoming days, the High Court will issue its ruling in the case.
The verdict is anticipated to help regularise employees’ employment. In exchange for money, the gang allegedly added names to this list of workers looking for regular employment.
Police are currently searching for the individuals in charge of the ring. In the lodge where the seven members were being housed, Rafiqul Hussain had reserved three rooms. He is currently on the lam.
Jayanta Das, one of the gang members, was held overnight at the lodge in exchange for Rs 10,000. The police found forgeries of appointment letters from numerous government agencies. According to reports, they superimposed scanned copies of official seals and signatures onto the falsified letters.
None of the people apprehended during today’s raids worked for the master roll. DTP operator Jayanta Das has been detained, and his laptop and printer have been taken.
Additionally, authorities seized a list of other people’s names. From the other people who were being held in connection with the case, laptops and papers were also taken.
According to the police, the bogus appointment letters were generated by the lodge. However, the three case masterminds are still evading police.
Moreover, officials made it clear that this bust has nothing to do with the 26,000 grade III and IV state government posts for which exams were just held.
Police identified the seven brokers as Nayan Saikia from Kahilipara, Sirajul Hoque from Mangaldoi, Jayanta Deka from Basistha, Jayanta Das from Goalpara and Gobind Choudhury, Noor Islam Ahmed and Pranjal Barman from Nalbari.
