Guwahati: Dispur Police Held Alok Sarkar In Rs 80 Crore Fraud
Guwahati: Alok Sarkar, the primary suspect in a massive Rs 80 crore fraud at the Assam government’s department of labour welfare was hauled into jail by Dispur police on Monday after a day of questioning in relation to the case.
Sarkar has been accused in the massive Rs 80 crore financial misappropriations in the government department. He had earlier been transported to the Dispur Police Station, where he had been subjected to protracted questioning.
According to allegations, his organisation used phoney bills to collect money totaling Rs 80 crores under the guise of skill development training.
A case had been filed in this regard at the Dispur Police Station and the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell.
Alok Sarkar’s companies named Puberun Constructions and Gargo Institute of Technology arranged training for unskilled labourers at several districts of the state.
The labourers were supposed to receive compensation after completing their training, but Sarkar did not give it to them.
Dispur Police had pulled him up for questioning earlier today after receiving numerous complaints against him.
During the day, hordes of labourers who had fallen for the con had gathered near Dispur Police Station.
