Guwahati: Extended School Timings Due to Heatwave to Continue in Kamrup Metro
Guwahati – The scorching heat gripping Assam has prompted the state government to prolong the revised school timings in Kamrup Metropolitan district. An official notification issued today by the Office of the District Elementary Education Officer confirmed that the adjusted schedule, initially implemented due to the ongoing heatwave, will remain in effect until further notice.
The order, referencing a previous directive dated June 10, 2025, stated, “With reference to the subject cited above and as per the order issued earlier vide order No.: SSA/KAM(M)/TT/S&S/Misc/2020/36/133 dated 10-06-2025, I would like to inform all that the rescheduled school timing will remain in force until further order.” This decision underscores the authorities’ continued concern for the well-being of students amidst the unyielding high temperatures.
The move comes as a direct consequence of a recent directive from Assam’s Education Minister, Dr. Ranoj Pegu. Last week, Dr. Pegu had urged all District Commissioners to assess local weather conditions and modify school hours accordingly, prioritising student safety. Taking to the microblogging platform X, Dr. Pegu had written, “In view of the heat wave alert issued by the Meteorological Department, all District Commissioners are requested to remain vigilant and exercise their delegated authority to reschedule school hours as per local weather conditions.” The extension of the revised timings in Kamrup Metro reflects the adherence to this ministerial directive and the prevailing weather conditions in the region. Parents and students in the district are advised to continue following the updated school schedule until a new announcement is made.
