Guwahati: Five Arrested In ATM Fraud Case
Guwahati: At least five persons were apprehended in connection with two ATM fraud instances in Guwahati.
As per reports, they had about 68 ATM cards which were later found.
According to the police, the people who were arrested used stolen ATM cards belonging to unidentified people to withdraw cash.
According to Guwahati City Police Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudhakar Singh, two incident of ATM fraud were reported on October 4 and 5. Five culprits have been taken into custody by Guwahati City Police following a thorough investigation of the charges.
“Two victims Rajib Das and Devendra Kalita had lodged two complaints and said that their ATM cards were changed by some people by showing to extend help them when they went to ATMs to withdraw money. When they returned home they came to know that, Rs 68,000 was withdrawn from one account and Rs 1.10 lakh was withdrawn from another account,” he said.
The cops located a car and arrested its owner after reviewing the ATMs’ CCTV footage. Police made another arrest after looking into the specifics of which account the money was sent.
“During interrogation, they revealed other persons’ name and accordingly, we arrested three other persons last night,” DCP Sudhakar Singh added.
The arrestees were identified as Jiaul Hoque, Lutfur Rahman, Aminul, Hanifur and Shahidul.
In their possession, the police found and seized 68 ATM cards of Rs 15,000 in cash, three vehicles, and six mobile phones.
