Guwahati: GU Postpones PG, GUIST examinations amid Flooding

Guwahati: The Gauhati University and its affiliated colleges’ postgraduate examinations, as well as the GUIST and I. Com examinations have been postponed due to heavy rains in Assam which have caused flooding in numerous parts of the state.

The examinations scheduled for June 21 and 22 have been postponed, and the institution will announce new dates soon.

However, the remaining examinations will go on as planned.

It may be mentioned that severe floods in Assam have resulted in the deaths of at least 73 persons and the displacement of over 40 lakh people. Lower Assam has been one of the hardest hit locations, with five main rivers, including Asia’s longest river, the Brahmaputra, flowing above the danger level in certain places.

Meanwhile, officials claimed that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the airdropping of food and other humanitarian goods in places where there is considerable flooding. Sarma issued the directive during a day-long review conference with his cabinet colleagues and senior district officers.

Sarma, who convened a virtual meeting with his ministers, senior state government officials, and deputy commissioners, ordered that relief and rescue activities be given top priority, with no delays based on procedural restrictions.

“In locations where there is substantial flooding and army, NDRF, or SDRF boats have not been able to reach, airdropping of relief items must be done,” he stated.
