Guwahati: The sale of alcohol increased significantly over Diwali in Guwahati.
Alcohol was reportedly sold for Rs 5.97 crore on October 24 and 25, with a daily sale of Rs 2.99 crore in Guwahati.
The city’s demand for alcohol rose on Monday, the day before Diwali, and peaked on Tuesday night, the next day.
There were also reports that some liquor shops operated till late night past the 10 pm deadline.
During Diwali last year, Guwahati downed alcohol worth Rs 5 crore.
Alcohol at Rs 2,44,62,000 was sold on the second day as opposed to Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 2,56,70,000 on the first day.
