Guwahati Hosts Successful Job Fair for Ex-Servicemen at Narangi Cantonment
Guwahati: A job fair aimed at providing re-employment opportunities to ex-servicemen was successfully conducted at Narangi Cantonment, Guwahati.
Organised by the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR), Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, the event witnessed an overwhelming response from veterans across Assam and neighbouring states.
Over 1,000 ex-servicemen from the Army, Navy, and Air Force registered for the fair, which saw participation from more than 55 companies offering 1,500+ job vacancies and 250+ entrepreneurship opportunities. The event provided ex-servicemen with potential roles ranging from senior supervisors and mid-level managers to strategic planners and project directors.
The fair was inaugurated by Prashanta Phukan, Minister of Skill Employment & Entrepreneurship, along with Dr. Niten Chandra, IAS, Secretary, DESW, and Maj Gen SBK Singh, Directorate General Resettlement. Also present were Maj Gen RD Sharma, GOC 51 Sub Area, Jayanta Sarma, Officiating President, Assam Chamber of Commerce, and ADG, DRZ (East).
The initiative proved to be a win-win for both corporates and veterans, as companies had the opportunity to recruit highly disciplined and skilled personnel, while ex-servicemen leveraged their technical and administrative expertise to secure meaningful employment. Additionally, entrepreneurship models were showcased, providing veterans with alternative career pathways.
The event reinforced the government’s commitment to reskilling and reintegrating ex-servicemen into the civilian workforce, ensuring their valuable experience continues to benefit the nation beyond their years of service.
