Guwahati Man Dies in Accident at Aradonga Picnic Spot in Meghalaya
Guwahati: A tragic incident occurred on December 23 at the Aradonga picnic spot, near the Assam-Meghalaya border, when 56-year-old Gautam Ganguly lost his life after slipping into a stream. Ganguly, a resident of Hatat Colony, Rest Camp in Pandu, Guwahati, was part of a picnic group visiting the popular site in Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills District.
Local residents discovered Ganguly’s body in a nearby stream and immediately alerted the police. Athiabari Police Outpost in-charge Samuel Sangma responded quickly to the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to Riangdo for post-mortem examination. Sangma confirmed that Ganguly slipped and fell into the stream while walking near it, which led to his tragic death.
According to Hahim Police Outpost in-charge Lakhi Nandan Boro, Ganguly was part of a group of approximately 60 people from Adabari, Guwahati, who had traveled to Aradonga for a picnic organized by their departmental store. While the group was preparing food, Ganguly wandered away and was later found in the stream by locals.
Aradonga, a well-known picnic spot in the region, is situated along the West Khasi Hills District in Meghalaya, close to Assam’s Kamrup District. The area is famous for its scenic beauty, featuring mountains, trees, and streams. The Aradonga stream flows into the Singra river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra.
Despite efforts by the police and local authorities to ensure safety at these popular picnic destinations, accidents remain common, especially during the peak winter season, which attracts thousands of visitors.
