Guwahati: Man Jumps Into Brahmaputra from old Saraighat Bridge

Guwahati: In yet another incident, a man allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Brahmaputra River from old Saraighat Bridge on Thursday.

According to initial reports, the man arrived in a scooter and parked it in the centre of the bridge and then dove into the river.

However, the identification of the man is yet to be ascertained.

It may be mentioned that a temporary employee of the District Sessions Judge in Goalpara committed suicide on Wednesday.

According to a suicide note he left; the employee known as Lohit Das committed suicide as a result of the claimed harassment at work.

Lohit Das reportedly dove into the Brahmaputra River.

Notably, the state is seeing an alarming increase in suicide cases.

A total of 3095 people suicide cases recorded in 2021. When speaking about suicide instances earlier this year, the chief minister claimed that Assam had a decrease in cases compared to the total for the year 2020.

The CM stated that a total of 3243 suicide cases were reported from the state of Assam in 2020 when speaking about the state’s suicide rates.
