Guwahati Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Restaurant Hygiene Violations; Barbie Hotel Among Establishments Seized
Guwahati: In a concerted effort to address unsanitary conditions in Guwahati’s eateries, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), spearheaded by Joint Commissioner Mrinal Bora, conducted a late-night raid on several restaurants along GS Road, including the popular Barbie Hotel and Fast Food.
The inspection revealed severe health violations, with officials reporting food prepared in unsanitary conditions and shocking discoveries of rodents in cooking areas.
The GMC’s investigation, part of a broader campaign against health violations, aims to ensure higher hygiene standards in the city’s dining establishments.
Over the past week, a number of restaurants and hotels have come under scrutiny, with multiple outlets facing penalties or closures for failing to adhere to health regulations.
On Friday night, two outlets of the Barbie Hotel and Fast Food were seized, following alarming reports from the inspection. This action follows a series of raids, including one on October 24 in Paltan Bazar, where officials targeted hotels known for poor hygiene practices.
During these early-morning inspections, GMC officials uncovered unsanitary conditions at several establishments, including the well-known Dilkhush Punjabi Dhaba.
The GMC’s crackdown underscores its commitment to safeguarding public health by rigorously enforcing cleanliness standards. Joint Commissioner Mrinal Bora stated that these efforts will continue until the city’s dining establishments meet required health guidelines.
