Guwahati: NFR installs first-ever water saving plant
Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has installed its first-ever Smart Automatic Coach Washing Plant (ACWP) at the Kamakhya Coach Maintenance Depot in Guwahati of Assam.
The plant was inaugurated by General Manager of NF Railway Anshul Gupta on Wednesday. The facility contains a multi-stage cleaning system.
This technology is environmentally friendly and provides an efficient and cost-effective method for cleaning the outside body while maximising the use of water.
Through its water treatment plant, the automated Coach Washing Plant maintains the ‘reduce, recycle, and reuse’ philosophy. In comparison to 1,500 litres per coach used in manual cleaning, it consumes just 300 litres of water, of which 80 percent is recycled water and only 60 litres (i.e. 20 percent) is fresh water.
The system has a controlled chemical and soap dilution system, ensuring that there is no pollution. Cleaning activities can save roughly 1,440 litres of water per coach, totalling 34,000 litres every rake of 24 coaches. This method of cleaning buses saves time and money by minimising the amount of labour required.
