Guwahati-North Guwahati Ferry Service Resumes After Temporary Suspension

Guwahati, 4th September: The Inland Water Transport Department (IWTD) of Assam has announced the resumption of the ferry service between Guwahati and North Guwahati, effective from Tuesday. Additionally, the ferry services will operate until 8:15 p.m. starting from the same day.

This decision comes almost a week after the IWTD had temporarily suspended the ferry service on August 29 due to a significant increase in the water level of the Brahmaputra River.

It is worth noting that the Brahmaputra River surpassed the danger mark of 105.70 meters in Dibrugarh, Assam, on August 27, 2023. As of the most recent reports, the river was flowing at 105.72 meters at 9 p.m. This rise in water levels led to the inundation of several houses in low-lying areas, prompting authorities to advise residents to vacate their homes and seek safety.
