Guwahati: Operation Against City Buses by Enforcement Officials

Guwahati: The enforcement officers to detect and prevent fraud in Guwahati conducted an operation against city buses on Wednesday to detect and prevent fraud.

The operation was carried out on the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup’s (M) instruction in response to complaints and grievances from the general public regarding city bus services.

It should be noted that, the transportation department has mandated the use of e-ticketing devices in all city buses to provide e-tickets to all passengers from November 1.

All Guwahati city bus proprietors were asked to purchase e-ticketing devices from November 1.

The transport department also made it clear that any bus found without an e-ticketing machine will not be allowed to ply on the roads.

An order passed by the district transport officer read, “It is a general information dispatched to all owners and association of city buses that from 1/11/2022 onwards any city buses will not be allowed to ply on the road without e-ticketing machine for issuing e-ticket to collect fare from travelling passengers.”

However, even if they offer the e-ticket passengers encounter issues because the conductors impose varying fees. The conductors responded that the fares vary for buses travelling on various routes when questioned about the various fares.

For example, if a passenger takes Bus No. 39 from Chandmari to Jalukbari which comes from Panjabari, the fares are different from the buses that run on the Noonmati route. Passengers must deal with difficulties because the majority of them are unaware of this type of discrimination.
