Guwahati, 30th November: A police officer and a journalist from a private media house in Guwahati, identified as Sub-Inspector Mubarak Ali and journalist Toufique Uddin Ahmed, have been arrested following the seizure of a significant amount of money linked to alleged hawala transactions. Another individual has also been arrested in connection to the case.
Reports indicate that raids conducted by the police in November 2023 led to the seizure of Rs 25 lakhs from each person. Early in the morning, Toufique Uddin Ahmed was taken into custody by the Crime Branch from the Garigaon area of Guwahati.
Earlier this month, Guwahati Police arrested two individuals and seized over Rs 1,69,70,000 in Athgaon after conducting search operations. The seized money was suspected to be part of alleged hawala transactions carried out by the duo. The arrested individuals were identified as Devkaran Sen (27) and Manoj Kumar (47), both hailing from Rajasthan.
