Guwahati Police Clarifies About Missing WPC Gayatri Hazarika: Not Deployed to Silsako Eviction Spot

Guwahati, September 5, 2023: The Guwahati Police have issued a press release regarding the missing Woman Police Constable (WPC) Gayatri Hazarika, who was reported missing on September 4, 2023. WPC Gayatri Hazarika, who was suffering from serious health issues, left her rented room in Guwahati on the pretext of official duty but has not been contactable since then.

Constable Juri Baishya of the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, reported her as missing and expressed concerns about her health and well-being. Efforts were immediately initiated to locate the missing constable.

On September 5, 2023, a police team discovered some personal belongings, including her mobile phone, spectacles, and footwear, on the old Saraighat Bridge. These items were later confirmed to belong to WPC Gayatri Hazarika.

As of now, WPC Gayatri Hazarika remains missing, and the police are continuing their efforts to locate her.

WPC Gayatri Hazarika’s service records indicate that she had been with the Assam Police since 2008 and joined the Guwahati Police Commissionerate on October 1, 2015. Her last posting was at Paltan Bazar Police Station, where she had been serving since August 27, 2020. Due to her health issues, she had been on leave from July 14, 2023, and upon her return, she was advised to rest further by the Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Bazar PS.

Regarding rumors linking her disappearance to her duty for the Silsako eviction, the police have clarified that no suicide note has been found, and WPC Gayatri Hazarika was exempted from duty for the Silsako eviction program due to her health condition.
