Guwahati Police Foil Cattle Smuggling Operation, Arrest Seven

Guwahati — In a significant breakthrough against cattle smuggling, Garchuk police intercepted a 10-wheeler truck loaded with cattle during a high-stakes operation on Tuesday.

The initiative, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nilotpal Saikia, resulted in the arrest of seven individuals and the recovery of 31 cattle heads, although sadly, some cattle did not survive the harsh conditions of transport, with their remains discovered inside the vehicle.

The suspects have been identified as Moisan Khan, Nazir Hussain, Fazrul Rahman, Amarjit Kalita, Haidar Ali, Abdul Kuddus, and Afsar Ali. In addition to the truck, police also impounded a Swift car that is believed to have been used in the smuggling operation, highlighting the organized nature of the trafficking efforts.

Preliminary investigations have uncovered links to a local businessman from Assam’s Barpeta district, who is suspected of playing a significant role in sourcing the cattle for smuggling. Authorities are now focused on expanding their investigation to unveil a larger network that may be facilitating this illegal trade across the region.

The operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement to combat illegal activities and protect animal welfare. Police have launched a detailed inquiry to further investigate connections within the smuggling network and bring all involved parties to justice.
