Guwahati: Police Raid on Call Center Involved in Fraud
Guwahati, 15th September: The Crime Branch of Guwahati Police conducted a raid on a call center operating from a commercial establishment in Bamunimaidam. The call center was suspected of involvement in fraudulent activities.
A team of 17 police personnel conducted the raid, during which 20 employees present at the call center were taken in for questioning. Additionally, officials seized 25 computers and other documents as evidence.
The raid was part of a broader investigation into cyber fraud following numerous complaints of monetary fraud. The police had received complaints of cyber fraud that resulted in significant financial losses for victims.
In related developments, the son of an IAS officer, Tasdiqur Rahman, was linked to one of the raided call centers. Authorities also raided the residence of IAS officer Atika Sultana as part of the investigation.
Another call center operating from Rajgarh’s Borbora complex, allegedly in the name of Tasdiqur Rahman and run from Noida, was also raided. Twenty-one individuals were detained, with only three from Assam and the rest from other states. The call center had reportedly been operating for about a year and was involved in fraudulent activities.
Furthermore, a raid was conducted at the Vivanta Hotel, where two main suspects were staying. One of them was detained in Bajali after attempting to escape. Atika Sultana, the IAS officer, had previously faced scrutiny from the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell in connection with an alleged recruitment scam involving the appointment of Gaonburhas in Mankachar.
