Guwahati: The transport department in Guwahati carried out a campaign against drunk driving during the night between Saturday and Sunday.
According to officials, the operation was conducted in the capital city to target reckless driving, drunk driving, and other traffic law violations.
Several vehicles were stopped and inspected, and those found to be breaking the law were fined, they added.
According to a top official, authorities would become harsher with those who violate the law while driving in the month before Durga Puja.
Forces are stationed all throughout the city to reduce the number of accidents leading up to the Puja.
