Guwahati: Suspected Balcony Bullet Hole Baffles at Dispur MLA Hostel!
Guwahati, 13th November: Tension gripped Dispur as a suspected bullet hole in a glass window on a first-floor balcony of the MLA hostel premises raised concerns on Sunday night during Diwali celebrations. The balcony, situated on the first floor, is home to at least six legislators, including the leader of the opposition in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia.
In response to the incident, a police team conducted a preliminary investigation at the MLA hostel. While doubts lingered about whether the hole resulted from a bullet or another sharp object, Commissioner of Police in Guwahati, Diganta Barah, stated, “As per our primary investigation, the hole in the glass window does not look like a bullet; rather it may have been created due to the hitting of a sharp object. Moreover, the object was probably thrown from inside of the building, not outside.”
Most MLAs were reportedly not present at the quarters on Sunday, with only Debabrata Saikia being in residence. Saikia showed the police team the hole in the balcony glass, prompting further investigation into the incident. AIUDF MLA Rafikul Islam, also a resident of the building, expressed concern over the incident, highlighting the need for heightened security in what is considered a secure area of the city.
