Guwahati: Suspected thieves ransack DIPR office, probe underway
Guwahati: Guwahati’s Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) experienced a perplexing incident early on March 9th, as suspected intruders gained access to the office, leaving a trail of scattered documents but seemingly taking nothing of value.
DIPR officials discovered the disarray upon arrival, with files and papers strewn across floors and tabletops, prompting an immediate report to local law enforcement.
Police confirmed receiving the complaint and initiating an investigation, yet noted the absence of any discernible theft. “We received a complaint from the DIPR about a theft case. However, we found that no item had been lost. We have registered a case and started our investigation,” stated a police officer, highlighting the unusual nature of the incident.
A senior DIPR official, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed bewilderment at the apparent lack of motive. “We found that our almirahs and lockers were opened by the thieves and all papers were out in the open. We are not able to understand the motive of the persons who entered the office,” he explained, emphasizing that valuable equipment, including laptops and cameras, remained untouched.
The incident has raised concerns regarding security, especially given the DIPR office’s location within Dispur’s high-security zone. Situated opposite the MLA quarters and a mere 100 meters from the secretariat complex, the breach has prompted questions about the circumstances surrounding the intrusion and the intentions of those involved.
