Guwahati to Host First-Ever Test and World Cup Matches in Historic Milestone

Guwahati: Guwahati is set to make history as the first Test cricket venue in the northeast region, hosting a match between India and South Africa in November, BCCI general secretary Devajit Saikia announced on Sunday, March 23.

The city will also host its first-ever World Cup match later this year during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Saikia confirmed that the decision was finalized during the BCCI apex council meeting held on Saturday.

The second match of the two-Test series between India and South Africa will be played at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium from November 22, marking Guwahati’s debut on the Test cricket map.

In addition, the ACA Stadium will host five to six matches during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, scheduled between September 24 and November 2. This will be the first time World Cup cricket matches are held in the northeast region.

Saikia expressed gratitude to ICC Chairman Jay Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their support in positioning Guwahati as a major cricketing hub. He highlighted that the inclusion of Guwahati in these prestigious events reflects the city’s growing prominence in the world of cricket.
