Guwahati, 5th September: In a tragic incident, a woman police constable, who was reportedly deployed for Silsako eviction, is said to have taken the drastic step by jumping off the Saraighat Bridge in Jalukbari, according to emerging reports on Tuesday.
The police personnel, identified as Gayotri Hazarika, hailed from Nagaon and had been posted at Paltan Bazar Police.
Reports indicate that prior to her deployment for Silsako eviction, Gayotri had repeatedly expressed her unwillingness to perform duty at the site. However, her requests appear to have gone unheeded, and she was ultimately assigned to the eviction site.
A mobile phone and several personal belongings belonging to Gayotri were discovered at the Saraighat Bridge. Nevertheless, the precise reason behind her drastic action remains unknown.
A search operation in the Brahmaputra River has been launched by the police in an attempt to recover her body.
There have been allegations suggesting that the police may be attempting to conceal the matter, further adding to the complexity of this tragic incident.
