Guwahati: Youth Injured in Leopard Attack In Fatasil Ambari area

Guwahati, 19th December: A youth sustained severe injuries in an encounter with a leopard that had entered a residential building in Gauri Sarma Colony at Fatasil Ambari area on December 19 in Guwahati city.

The leopard’s attack resulted in injuries to the victim’s head, neck, and knee, though fortunately, the injuries were not fatal.

 With the assistance of fellow residents, the youth managed to escape the leopard’s grasp and received immediate first-aid before being transported to a hospital for further treatment.

As the incident unfolded, the leopard remained trapped inside the house, prompting local authorities and the forest department to be alerted. The pressing issue of human-animal conflict in Assam has been particularly pronounced, with sightings of leopards in urban areas adding to the existing challenges posed by elephants.

In a recent and concerning development, the lifeless bodies of two adult leopards were recovered in the Ganeshpara area of the city. This recovery prompted authorities to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter, given the unusual circumstances. Reports indicate that the leopards were found at Rajmohan Path in Ganeshpara, with suspicions arising due to one of the leopards having its limbs bound with a rope, suggesting potential foul play by unidentified individuals.

In response to this incident, officials from the forest department immediately arrived at the scene, launching a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the leopards and to address the larger issue of human-wildlife conflict in the region.
