Guwahati’s ‘Each One Reach One’ Mentorship Transforms Kendriya Vidyalaya Students

Guwahati, Assam: A pioneering mentorship programme, ‘Each One Reach One’, launched by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Guwahati regional office, has significantly impacted over 2,000 students across Kendriya Vidyalayas in Assam, providing crucial academic and emotional support. Completing its inaugural year, the initiative has showcased promising results, enhancing both performance and overall well-being.

The programme, designed to address a range of issues from academic struggles to mental health concerns and behavioural challenges, assigns dedicated teacher-mentors to students identified as needing additional support. Unlike conventional remedial classes, ‘Each One Reach One’ offers comprehensive guidance to students grappling with anxiety, subject-related fears, attention deficits, and complex home environments.

Currently operational in 42 KVs under the Guwahati region, the 2024–25 academic session saw 1,450 teachers volunteer to mentor 2,260 students. Notable academic successes include a 99.5% pass rate for 183 mentored Class 10 students and a 98.6% success rate for 285 Class 12 students. Beyond academics, the programme has been instrumental in bridging developmental and emotional gaps. Initial data revealed that 29.4% of mentored students faced literacy difficulties, 21.7% struggled with STEM subjects, 12.6% had attention-related challenges, and 9.1% exhibited emotional and behavioural concerns.

The genesis of the initiative stemmed from interactions between students and the Guwahati regional office, which uncovered a pattern of deep-rooted anxieties, including exam stress, familial pressure, and emotional disconnect. In response, teachers, school heads, and even senior administrative officers stepped forward to adopt students for year-long mentorships.

Early success stories abound, with instances like Keya, a Balvatika-3 child from KV AFS Jorhat, whose hyperactivity and writing challenges were effectively addressed through sustained mentoring. Shristi from a KV in Guwahati benefited immensely from academic and emotional support, improving in Maths and Science while navigating personal issues. Mofida from KV IIT Guwahati successfully overcame social anxiety, performance pressure, and lifestyle issues through structured guidance on mindfulness, nutrition, and routine.

Inspired by the National Education Policy 2020, the ‘Each One Reach One’ programme is now gaining considerable traction across other KVS regional offices, with several already piloting similar mentorship models, drawing lessons from Guwahati’s experience. With its demonstrated impact, the initiative is emerging as a replicable framework, poised to expand further in upcoming academic sessions, fostering safer and more responsive learning environments for students facing diverse challenges.
