Guwahati’s Sarab Bhatti & Kalapahar has Renamed
Guwahati: The renaming of eight streets in Guwahati has been proposed by the Assam government. The government had previously suggested proposed to rename Kalapahar area of Guwahati.
Kalapahar has now been renamed as Nilachal Nagar. The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, had earlier declared that the government will replace the names of towns and villages whose names did not reflect the state’s culture and heritage.
He added that some areas in some communities have names that the locals do not want to use and that some names are given to places with bad intent.
The local MLA was also requested by the chief minister to pick a name for Kalapahar. He said that the name ‘Kalapahar’ has been named after tyrant Muslim General of Bengal Sultanate Kalapahad.
On the other hand, the name of Sarabhati will now be known as Arya Nagar. The government has already renamed 56 streets, and it will continue to do so.
