Guwahati, 14th November: Guwahati’s Diwali festivities reached a spirited high as the Excise Department revealed a surprising trend – the city’s residents indulged in alcoholic beverages, spending a remarkable Rs 6.8 crore in just two days of the celebrations.

The statistics illustrate an exuberant celebration, with alcohol sales totaling Rs 3 crore and 71 lakh on Sunday and Rs 3 crore and 11 lakh on the following day.
- Surge Compared to Last Year:
This surge in numbers reflects a significant increase from the previous year, where in 2022, Guwahati consumed liquor worth Rs 5.97 crore during Diwali, with a daily average sale of Rs 2.99 crore.
