Gwala Diwas Celebrated in Sikkim: Governor and Chief Minister Laud Contributions of Dairy Farmers

Northeast Desk, 1st July: Sikkim observed ‘Gwala Diwas’ on July 1, a day dedicated to honoring the state’s milk producers. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended their congratulations to the people, with a special focus on dairy farmers.

Governor Acharya praised the initiative for empowering milk producers and bolstering the rural economy, acknowledging their dedication in delivering high-quality dairy products.

Chief Minister Tamang acknowledged the challenges faced by farmers and cowherds, commending their efforts in natural farming and animal husbandry. He highlighted government initiatives such as the Milk Person of the Year award and enhanced animal health services.

In a Facebook post, Tamang lauded the resilience of farmers amidst variable weather conditions and other adversities, acknowledging cowherds as integral to the community’s hardworking spirit.

Tamang also underscored India’s global leadership in milk production, crediting farmers and cowherds for embracing natural farming practices, which he termed as pivotal in achieving the “White Revolution” and enhancing national self-reliance.

The chief minister outlined various measures taken by Sikkim to support dairy farmers, including the introduction of Gwala Diwas and initiatives aimed at ensuring the welfare of cows through dedicated health services.

Both leaders emphasized the significance of recognizing and bolstering dairy farmers in fostering a progressive and prosperous society.
